Assessing critical circuit resilience

Working with one of the largest electricity network companies in the UK, TEXO Survey & Inspection is working on a long-term framework to inspect transmission networks. For this project, we were asked to inspect and evaluate XCN/XCS circuits.


Having established permissions to access land so we could inspect the steel structures safely, our experienced unmanned survey vehicle team surveyed 212 towers across just 11 days. Looking at more than 60 steel lattice structures, our task was to inspect the current condition, paying particular attention to the resilience of the twin circuit for future operation.

Using unmanned survey technology allows us to collect significant amounts of highly precise data. This in turn allows office-based inspectors to study the key areas surveyed and share conclusions and plans via our cloud-based platform, TEXZONE.

The ability to capture this data in such a flexible unobtrusive manner ensured full coverage was attained, with the electronic portal offering data to the client within 24 hours of its capture enabling any critical defects to be immediately acted upon..
