Pump and chain repair and maintenance in high-risk environment

TEXO Asset Integrity was asked to carry out maintenance and repair to a water pump and chains.
The project was initially just scoped for one visit, but complications on site meant an additional visit was needed to help our client achieve a safe and sustainable solution.

SOLUTION

The chains could not be maintained under the Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998, so we needed to design a specific health and safety case for the work on the chains. With only a single rigging point for lifting the pump from its footing – creating an off-centre gravity point – and the site being an ATEX site with flammable conditions, this project was extremely sensitive.

We managed the project and achieved all the maintenance targets set by the client.

RESULT

Using our specialist team, we completed tasks including:

  • Removed chains for inspection
  • Replaced chains to allow for the lifting of assets
  • Oil-based spray used to release the split pin and remove it
  • Specific rigging to allow us to safely lift the pump
  • Using a Pry bar to free from footing while lifting allowed us to remove the asset
  • Rigging lifting equipment for removal

This project is a great example of our approach to managing potentially dangerous and high-risk environments with a reliable team and with health and safety as the foremost consideration.
