Fabricating a turntable assembly for mobile crane

Client

Mammoet

Mammoet needed a turntable assembly for a mobile crane. The project consisted of a turntable ring and base plate and was required with a very short lead time. We were selected for this project because we were able to demonstrate a positive approach to sub-contractor management, and could offer a turnkey solution in a tight timeframe.

Solution

This was our first fabrication project for Mammoet, working with them to fabricate the turntable unit from their own design. We were able to work closely with the client, maintaining good communication links and using a collaborative approach to ensure we fabricated the complete assembly within the short timescales demanded.

Result

“Mammoet internally designed a new turntable for rotating an indivisible load up to 1000Te. The first application was to rotate a 400Te Rail Bridge with installation under Easter possession works. With a short lead time, TEXO was sub-contracted to manufacture the turntable assembly consisting of the ring and the base plate to Mammoet’s specifications and committed to accomplishing the works to the deadline required.

Under difficult circumstances, due to the volatile material market at the time as well as sub-contracted elements to the build, TEXO managed the process with clear communication to Mammoet throughout and delivered a quality project within budget and on time.

Close attention to dimensional control meant the sub-assemblies and auxiliary third-party components assembled faultlessly during commissioning. Consequently, on site, the turntable performed seamlessly as it rotated with a 400Te bridge deck through 90 degrees.”
