Fabrication
TEXO are an established Framework Contractor for our customer, a major UK water company serving 5.5M customers. We were recently asked to use our specialist water industry knowledge and engineering skills to develop a solution to a long-standing process issue to help increase the retention of partially aerated water within a tank, to improve effluent quality being passed forward from this process.
Our design team developed a plan to replace a section of damaged GRP scum board with GMS struts and facing weir plate to prevent partially treated wastewater bypassing the process. This unique design comprised of a 16m section of 38 separate components, each bespoke to TEXO and our customer.
As the installation was 8m off ground level, it was completed by our in-house rope access mechanical engineering team, utilising specialist access equipment and an advanced rigging arrangement to provide a safe working system to the treatment tank.
The installation was made more challenging by a late change of plan by our customer to provide access to the planned rigging area, so our IRATA trained Level 3 Rope Access Supervisors, had to quickly design and rig a complex rope arrangement to provide safe access for the fitters, whilst maintaining strict working at height safety measures.
Given TEXO’s experience of having to adapt to complex offshore conditions, our site supervisors quickly reviewed the restrictions and developed a SSOW acceptable to our customer, allowing the work to proceed as planned, with no delays or revisits to site.
As was expected by our customer, and for the reason they have come to rely on TEXO to deliver a professional mechanical engineering service, the project was completed on time with no impact to the wastewater treatment process. Within hours of the installation, the site process scientists were able to report that they were recording a significant improvement in the readings being gathered by their electronic sensors on the outfall of the tank.
This was wholly as the result of the quick action taken by all the TEXO teams involved in the design, fabrication and installation of the weir plate system. This reinforces why TEXO are rapidly becoming a contractor of choice and who are being regularly engaged with by the leading UK water companies to deliver complex access and high-risk confined space engineering projects.
TEXO are trusted to work safely, smartly and efficiently to deliver complex projects safely and on time, within budget and with longevity built-in to our design and fabrication solutions.
